The Process

When I distill my work to a common denominator, it is about emptiness and how light fills it. Having worked within several series exploring light's visual phenomena, light within nature interests me.

It is light's interaction in the sky that I explore in my work. It transforms into flashes of beauty creating veils of watercolored abstractions. In it there can be sensations of emptiness to symphonies of atmospheric color. Having studied color theory, I find meaning from observing light as color. Its metaphorical dualities are other aspects to my work.

The process of painting is seductive. I love the sensations of oil paint as it brushes on a flat surface. The oil painting techniques of glazing and broken color have the potential to render light almost as mysteriously as in nature.
